CAN OTTAWA PROMISE $100M WON'T REACH HAMAS? IT HASN'T.
Ottawa just pledged another $100 million for the Palestinian territories. It hasn't said who gets it, how it will be tracked or what stops Hamas from getting its cut. Until it does, not one more dollar should go out.
Hamas hasn't gone anywhere.
Hamas says it has handed over civilian government control, but according to reporting in August, Hamas still controls close to half of Gaza. An official with the international Board of Peace overseeing Gaza admitted that "diversion of aid continues."
"Trust us" is not a safeguard.
Global Affairs Canada says it "does not tolerate any misuse or diversion of international assistance" and relies on "a systematic screening process and anti-terrorism provisions."
Then show us. Before any of this money goes out, the government must:
- Name every organization that will receive Canadian funds, and the amounts.
- Publish the safeguards that stop money, goods and salaries from reaching Hamas or Hamas-linked groups.
- Review every Canadian-funded partner named in the Hamas documents before it gets another dollar.
- Commit to an independent audit, with the results made public.
Canadians deserve to know that their tax dollars won't fall into the hands of terrorists.
